SpaceX to build new Mars-bound Falcon rocket in Los Angeles

Image
SpaceX plans a rocket and spaceship facility at the Port of Los Angeles that will help advance  founder Elon Musk ’s goal of making missions to Mars by 2022. The private space company plans to build a system called “BFR” — short for Big Falcon Rocket — at the facility. BFR will only be movable by barge or ship, necessitating a port location. SpaceX is headquartered in a Los Angeles suburb and the company already uses the port in other missions. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti gave the news at his annual State of the City address Monday. “This is a vehicle that holds the promise of taking humanity deeper into the cosmos than ever before," Garcetti said in the speech. "And this isn’t just about reaching into the heavens. It’s about creating jobs right here on Earth.” The facility could create as many as 700 jobs, according to SpaceX. Musk presented plans for BFR last fall, saying the new rocket would replace others known as Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy and Dragon. The co

WWE WrestleMania 34 Results: Why Roman Reigns Should Have Defeated Brock Lesnar

Image
WWE WrestleMania 34 did not end with Roman Reigns standing tall as the new Universal Champion. Some diehard fans, in particular those who cannot stand Reigns, won't like to hear this, but WWE did not make the smart choice at WrestleMania 34. It was time for "The Beast" to drop the Universal Championship, and Reigns was the right man for the job. Let's start with Lesnar, who held the Universal title for more than a year because he's considered to be  WWE's biggest draw  but during his title reign had done little to prove that's actually the case. According to  WWE's Key Performance Indicators , Raw's TV ratings increased exactly 0% by the end of 2017, at which point Lesnar had held the title for nearly nine months. Likewise, the average WWE Network subscriber count dropped by more than 200,000 from Q2 (when Lesnar won the title) to Q4, while average live event attendance was at 4,900 in Q3, the lowest during any quarter over the last three ye

Apple CEO Tim Cook is creeped out by ads that follow him around the internet

Image
Late last month,  Apple CEO Tim Cook commented on the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica scandal . When asked what he would do if he were Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Cook replied, "I wouldn’t be in this situation." He later stated, "We could make a ton of money if our customer was our product. We've elected not to do that." Zuckerberg hit back  calling the Apple executive's comments "extremely glib." On Friday, Cook was interviewed on MSNBC and said that online ads that follow users around the internet are creepy. He said, "To me it's creepy when I look at something and all of a sudden it's chasing me all the way across the web. I don't like that." The CEO also called privacy a "human right," and said that he is concerned with the way advertisers and others can gain access to personal data. Cook said during the interview that when  Apple  repatriates the $300 billion it holds overseas, it will pay $38

Drake Drops Energetic New Single 'Nice For What'

Image
As he promised only a day ago, Drake has shared a new single just in time for those looking for something to soundtrack their weekend. The hip-hop star’s single “Nice For What” arrived just an hour before Saturday morning, coming late in the evening for a new music Friday release, but when you’re Drake, you don’t need to stick to the same timetables as everyone else. “Nice For What” is Drake’s third new single of 2018, and it could easily wind up being another showstopper on the charts for the musician. An upbeat, summer party-ready backs another perfect delivery from the biggest artist in hip-hop, and a chopped and screwed Lauryn Hill vocal sample helps the track stand out from much of the rest of his discography. It’s pitched perfectly, and Drake and producer Murda Beatz took some chances and allowed “Nice For What” to be slightly strange, but that only makes the song that much more alluring and interesting, and it shows that Drake isn’t afraid to try new things. Drake has found

Officials are investigating a Panera Bread in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. "The state lab is conducting tests to see if the strain of E. coli bacteria (there are many) matches. The CDC will then conduct confirmatory tests. The NJ Department of Health is still awaiting lab tests to determine if these cases are linked at all. As more information becomes available, we will provide that to the public," said spokeswoman Donna Leusner. Sarah Perramant, a public health epidemiologist in Warren County told  NJ.com  that officials were investigating “local Panera Breads” in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. "The Warren County Health Department and state Health Department are investigating a cluster of E. coli cases" potentially from "local Panera Breads," Perramant said. Perramant said they have not determined the Panera Bread a

Incyte, Merck shares slide after melanoma therapy fails study

Image
Incyte  said on Friday an independent committee concluded that its drug for a type of skin cancer in combination with  Merck 's Keytruda failed to meet the main goal in a late-stage study. Incyte shares fell 20 percent in premarket trading Friday, while Merck shares were down about 2 percent. The two companies would stop the study as it did not meet the primary goal of improving progression-free survival compared to patients on Keytruda monotherapy. Merck's Keytruda is approved for the treating several forms of cancer, including lung cancer and advanced melanoma. The companies said the study's second main goal of overall survival was also not expected to reach a statistical significance. The study was evaluating a combination of Incyte's inhibitor Epacadostat and Merck's Keytruda for the treatment of metastatic melanoma. Incyte  said on Friday an independent committee concluded that its drug for a type of skin cancer in combination with  Merck &
